About Us

Each chapter of Delta Delta Delta is designated its own Greek name, ours being Phi Xi. The Phi Xi chapter was established on June 19, 1957, after the members of Sorosis, a literary society, bid Tri Delta's Executive Office to colonize a chapter at Wichita State University. Our 50th anniversary was celebrated in 2007.Phi Xi continues to make strides in the WSU Greek community. The chapter is proud to have be the recipients of several awards in the last few years, including:2009 - Outstanding Greek Sophomore of the Year:Courtney Looney2010 - Greek Woman of the Year:Brooke BarlowGreek Unity Award:Amber BucklesRhatigan Award for Fraternal Excellence (given to the most outstanding Greek chapter on campus)

Fat Talk Free WeekAs the first peer-led, evidence-based eating disorders prevention program shown to truly work, Reflections does not focus on eating disorders; rather, it emphasizes creating and reaffirming positive and healthy personal body image through a variety of structured discussions, activities, and exercises.

A nationwide weeklong campaign was designed to help sorority sisters establish and maintain a positive body image.During this week, Tri Delta and several sponsors work to raise consciousness about the dangers of Fat Talk and the impact it has on women's self-esteem and confidence.Phi Xi was proud to bring Fat Talk Free Week back to campus for its second year in 2010. To kick off the week, we began with a lectureship featuring Stacey Prussman, one of the nation's top body image speakers.Plans are currently in the works for Fat Talk Free Week 2011. Our Founding

Let us steadfastly love one another

When Sarah Ida Shaw and her best friend Eleanor Dorcas Pond founded Tri Delta at Boston University in 1888, they had no idea their organization would amount to the international Greek leader it is today. At a time when women were just beginning to enroll as college students and become members of the workforce, Sarah and Eleanor felt the need to create an organization brimming with friendship and support for women. In fact, these "ladies societies" were still called fraternities at the time of Tri Delta's founding.Along with Florence Isabelle Stewart and Isabel Morgan Breed, Tri Delta's first initiates, the women authored the rituals and constitution, as well as designed the emblems. Inspiration for the official insignia of Tri Delta was derived from Egyptian lore, Hindu mysticism and Greek legends and astrology all reflecting the varied interests of Sarah Ida Shaw.

Official Emblems

The Pearl

New Member Pin

The pearl is the jewel of Tri Delta. It was chosen to symbolize the new member because it is the only jewel that grows, developing from a tiny grain of sand to a thing of value and beauty.
The new member pin is worn prior to Initiation. It is a green and silver enamel badge and was described in the 1818 constitution as an “inverted Delta, surrounded by three Deltas”

The Trident

The Pine

The trident is the symbol of the first degree of Initiation. The trident and its degree of Initiation administered as the new member service until 1912. The silver trident is returned prior to Initiation into the Stars and Crescent degree. A gold trident may be worn as a badge guard.
The pine tree is the symbol of Tri Delta's collegiate members because it represents growth and loft aspirations.

The Pansy

The Stars and Crescent

Three golden stars, crown set with pearls, within a gold crescent of three hundred degree bearing three deltas in black enamel is the official badge of the Fraternity. Tri Delta initiates receive a Stars and Crescent Badge with her initials, the Greek letters of her chapter, and her chapter Initiation number engraved on the back.
The pansy is Tri Delta's flower. It is the symbol of alumnae membership and the third step in the lifetime development of Delta Delta Delta members.

Tri Delta's partnership

with St. Jude

Tri Delta nationally supports fundraising efforts for children's cancer charities

Fall Philanthropy Starting Fall 2011, we will host Coffehouse and Desserts. This is a fun event featuring free coffee, desserts, live music, and a silent auction all to benefit St. Jude.Putt for a CureIn Spring 2011, we hosted a family friendly mini golf tournament that raised almost $2000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.Sincerely Yours is a letting writing program for family, friends, and neighbors to join us as we contribute to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.WSU's chapter of Tri Delta has participated in the program since 2008 where over $13,000 was raised.Victory in the ValleyIn Fall 2009, a partnership was formed between Phi Xi and VIV, seeking to help pediatric cancer patients locally.VIV is a non-profit cancer support organization for people of all ages. WSU's Tri Delta chapter has the opportunity to host patients and their siblings at special events including a fall pumpkin patch, Christmas party, & Camp Victory summer kids camp.
St. Jude Children's Research HospitalIn 1999, Tri Delta officially adopted St. Jude as a national philanthropic partner, and in 2005 completed a $1 million dollar project to create the Tri Delta Teen Room.In 2010, Tri Delta completed the 10 by 10 goal, raising over $10 million in less than 4 years to name the Tri Delta Patient Care Floor in the Chili's Care Center.In August 2010, Tri Delta announced the goal of raising $15 million in 5 years to name the Speciality Clinic located in the Patient Care Center at St. Jude.

Wichita State's non traditional campus brings a non traditional Greek system. Although Phi Xi does not require its members to live together in a chapter house, we are blessed to have a home where we can have meetings, social events andeven hang out in between classes.
